The Town of Windsor will host a retirement celebration for outgoing Chief of Police John Michaels.

The community is invited to help celebrate Michaels’ 40-year career and lifetime of achievement from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Windsor Community Recreation Center. Guests are asked to RSVP online at http://bit.ly/chiefretire or call 970-674-2489 by Wednesday, July 13.

The evening will include light refreshments, comments from members of the Town of Windsor and law enforcement communities.

Michaels will retire on July 22 with 40 years of service in the Windsor Police Department, including 32 years as chief of police.

Michaels graduated from the University of Northern Colorado. While attending college, Michaels began his law enforcement career as a Patrol Division clerk with the City of Fort Collins. He joined the Windsor Police Department in 1976. Michaels was promoted to sergeant in 1980 and lieutenant in 1982. In March 1984, Michaels was named the acting police chief, and was officially named the Windsor chief of police in March 1985.

During Michaels’ tenure in the Windsor Police Department, the town grew from 2,000 residents to nearly 25,000 today. Likewise, the Windsor Police Department has grown from six officers to now 24 sworn officers, two ordinance officers, two administrative assistants and four crossing guards. Despite the exponential growth, Windsor was recently named one of the safest communities in Colorado.
The Town of Windsor thanks Michaels for his years of dedicated service and his leadership in the community.

The Windsor Community Recreation Center is located at 250 N 11th Street, Windsor, Colo.
