Windsor Police Department to Host Prescription Take Back Day Oct. 28

The Windsor Police Department will help residents safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The service is in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Dropping off medications is free to the public with no questions asked—drop-offs are accepted anonymously. The event will take place in the parking lot of the Windsor Police Department at 200 N. 11th St.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to encourage the public to turn in unused or old prescription medications in a safe and secure manner.

“This event is such an easy way for us keep these medications out of the wrong hands and prevent tragedies,” said Windsor Police Sergeant Kurt Clow. “It helps prevent drug abuse, accidental poisoning and environmental contamination. We encourage everyone with old prescriptions to participate and help make their homes and community safer.”

With more than 4,300 state and local law enforcement agencies participating last October, nearly 650,000 pounds of prescription medications were collected nationwide, according to the DEA’s website.

Only prescription medications are accepted. The Windsor Police Department cannot accept illicit drugs, mercury (thermometers), needles, oxygen containers, chemotherapy, radioactive substances or pressurized canisters.
