The Street Division maintains many unpaved roads and alleys within the town limits. The top layer of gravel on these surfaces must be shaped, compacted, and smoothed to ensure level imperfections so the surface will have a good riding surface.
A motor grader is used on unpaved gravel roads to remove any pot
holes, wash boarding, rutting that may have developed, repair and
replace any roadside drainage issues, shoulder rehabilitation and allows
the re-establishment of the shape of the roadway, to ensure that the
road drains properly.
Alleys are graded once in the spring, and additional grading is done on an as needed basis.
