The Windsor Police Department looks to encourage pedestrian and driver safety with the launch of the school district’s new academic year Wednesday, Aug. 9.
“We want to remind the community that school is starting earlier this year,” said Chief of Police Richard Klimek. “With the start of school comes increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic, especially along Main Street. We ask drivers to use caution and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.”
Crosswalk Safety Reminders:
In an effort to increase student safety, Windsor Police hired an additional crossing guard.
“This year we added a crossing guard in the mornings and after school at the high school,” Klimek said. “This will help us increase pedestrian safety and help with traffic flow, especially with construction in the area.”
In addition to the high school crossing guard, the town employs five crossing guards at five locations before and after school, as well as mid-day for kindergarten dismissal.
