Windsor Police Looks to Deter Summer Crime with Prevention

The Windsor Police Department notes an annual increase in certain types of crime in the summer months that residents can take proactive measures to help prevent.

“While we pride ourselves on our low crime rates, Windsor sees similar increases in crime during the summer months as the rest of the nation,” said Police Sergeant Aaron Lopez. “Summer is when vehicle trespasses and property crimes, in general, increase across town.”

To help prevent summer crime, the Windsor Police Department encourages all Windsor residents to:

  • Not leave items of value or temptation visible on their property or in vehicles.
  • Lock home and vehicle doors.
  • Report suspicious activity or people to the Police when it is observed.

“One of the big offenses we see is vehicle trespass,” Lopez said. “These cases are usually crimes of opportunity. Suspects will generally walk up and down streets, checking vehicles and enter those that are unlocked or that have visible items of value.

“By following our three safety tips, we can all work together to prevent these crimes of opportunity.”

To report suspicious activity or people, please call the Windsor Police Department at 970-674-6400. In the case of an emergency, dial 911 at any time of day or night.
